In Memoriam Kiki Keranen
Kiki Keranen, resident of San Antonio, passed away at home on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 10:20 AM, at the age of 56, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Kiki was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 15, 1953. She married Randall Kyte in 1970 and had two children with him. In the 1970s, Kiki taught ballet, aerobics, and many other dance classes. In 1984, she moved to Long Beach, California, where she worked as an extra on many television shows and Hollywood movies. Kiki was preceded in death by her father, Louis Grivas. She is survived by her mother, Vieno Keranen Grivas; her brother and two sisters, John, Mary and Valerie Grivas; her son, Jonathan Kyte; daughter Terreena Kyte, and grandson, Travis Kyte Plowman. All who knew Kiki were amazed by her optimism, determination, joyful spirit, and love for people and animals. She will be remembered for her many artistic talents, her sense of humor, quick wit, generosity and gentle wisdom. Kiki played and sang with a number of local bands, most recently Ikon, a Greek folk-rock band that has been the "house band" at Demo's Greek Food for 11 years. She was a featured vocalist, piano player, and accordionist. While she will be greatly missed, her legacy will go on through the many lives she has touched.
